I don't think Thompson is the "Democrats worst nightmare." He seems like an okay guy to me. I've said it before and I'll say it again, none of the current major GOP candidates scare me. I think McCain is a bit nuts but I would generally have no little to no problems with having Rudy or Romney in the White House. I think Thompson would make a very good candidate for the GOP but he's not perfect and he's not Reagan.
Hi dave, I wrote that he had one Reagan-like quality... the ability to speak in simple plain spoken language and not in gobble-de-gook and doublespeak...and it's true.
I love that just mentioning Reagan gets any self respecting liberal agitated however.
I also think you could be wrong about the nightmare part. Fred doesn't seem to be afraid to "call 'em as he sees 'em". Should be fun to watch. -red
Democrats should fear Fred from the aspect that I mentioned.
The important thing about the quality I refer to is that Fred - like Ronald Reagan, seems to have the ability to by-pass the *media and speak directly to the public in plain simple straight-forward terms. George Bush does not have this ability unfortunately and has been his biggest problem.
A candidate with the ability to by-pass the *media (*the pr dept for the Democrat party) is indeed the Democrats "worst nightmare".
He is a strong candidate, there is no question about it, but I have never gotten "agitated" byy Thompson or the mention of Reagan. That is just plain silly Red.
we both know that you are NOT the typical lib... in fact, as I have said before, if they knew you were in their tent they might throw you out. (see Joe Liberman- pro war Democrat or contact Zel Miller pro-war Democrat for reference)
I voted for Reagan...2x I also remember very clearly what was said about him by the left at the time.... plus the libs know very well that he is loved by the right and that alone is enough to send most (not all) libs through the roof. (present company accepted)
I say it was a smart calculated move by Thompson last night to do exactly what my post says... he by-passed the media (Fox debate) and spoke directly to Americans via the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
