Oklahoma's Horrible Tax on Groceries

This one has been a thorn in my side since returning to Oklahoma 4 years ago after living for over 25 years in Colorado. Having not paid taxes on groceries for 25 years, you can imagine my shock the first time at the grocery store in Oklahoma. I just shook my head and thought... one of the poorest states and weakest economies, and they tax groceries- brilliant. Who's been in control of the government here? Democrats... yet surprisingly Senator Jay Paul Gumm of Durant (D) Durant feels the same way I did that day in the supermarket about it. Unlike Senator Gumm however I support other tax decreases for the same reason.
Be that as it may,Oklahoma needs to stop taxing groceries, immediately if not "sooner", and like virtually every tax decrease, ...average-everyday people will spend more and get more groceries, which will increase sales for stores and increase taxes to the city and state.
The Republican legislature needs to get behind this idea and run with it... not instead of other tax reductions, in addition to other tax reductions... but moved to the "express lane".

AMEN!!!!
Maybe this can be brought up in time for '08 elections. Tax free groceries sure have been a boon for the economies of states that've abolished them. Like Texas, Tennessee, Colorado. So it may be like the lottery, here soon.
Now however, I fully understand the passion for your Rockies, Avalanche and Broncos. What, no Nuggets?
Again, from me, GO Rockies!! Beat the D-backs. then lose to the Sox.
in 7.

In Denver we used to say... "GO NUGGETS"(and take that crappy soccer team with you).
I liked basketball back when they used to shoot the ball... watching an 8 foot guy drop a ball in a basket 10 feet high seems kinda like GOLF for the uncoordinated. Naw... we let Ralph play without clubs... he just runs over and drops the ball in the hole... and once in a while.. he even misses!
If they put a goalie in basketball...now your talkin', maybe some ice, and move that darn basket down here, smaller ball or ...puck, a few brooms and some drunk fans with no front teeth, now that's my kind of basketball!
Having said that, I do support OK getting a pro-anything team.
If you want business to locate here, job growth and the economy to take off... a pro sports franchise (or three) can get it going, no doubt about it.
It's called "quality of life" and OK isn't able to compete with TX or CO on that field...yet.
But ending the taxes on groceries is a nice babystep in the right direction.
