Uhhh... Pop Quiz Mr President

October 2008:
Mark my words,” Joe Biden told a group of wealthy contributors. “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like it did John Kennedy.” A moment later Biden added, “Watch, we're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
...“I guarantee you,” Biden said, “it's going to happen. I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate."

Wall Street Journal: "North Korea's test of a second nuclear device Monday didn't surprise readers who saw John Bolton's recent prediction on these pages. But it does once again put in sharp relief the world's failure to counter dictator Kim Jong Il's challenge to global security. If history is any guide, Kim's strategy is to keep escalating until he extorts more money, aid and global recognition. This time in particular he's testing President Obama and his vow to "engage" the world's rogues."

"The stakes here go beyond the ambitions of one nasty regime. North Korea has shown in the past it is willing to sell its missile and other technology around the world, not least to Iran and Syria.
The mullahs in Tehran and other rogues
are carefully watching the response of the new American President as they contemplate the costs of their own WMD ambitions."

SEOUL (AFP)After Nuclear Blast, N Korea Fires Missiles:

"North Korea reportedly fired two short-range missiles on Tuesday, in a move set to heighten tensions after its latest nuclear weapons test drew global condemnation.

The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting to consider the options after Pyongyang's test of a nuclear device on Monday.

The Council called the test a "clear violation" of international law and immediately began working on a resolution that could impose new sanctions on the secretive North, which has now tested two nuclear bombs in three years."

Meanwhile....
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday rejected Obama's proposal for it to "freeze" its nuclear work in return for no new sanctions and ruled out any talks with major powers on the issue.

UPDATE: Tuesday pm- N Korea has now fired a total of 5 (five)... update- make that 6 (six) missiles in the past 24 hrs.

N. Korean President Kim Jong Il was "unavailable for comment".

I had considered posting an unflattering photo of Mr. Kim, (or is it Mr. Il?) with my forthcoming Nork column, but after seeing yours I'm afraid I just couldn't inflict an image like that on the general public.

Or could I?

A helluva world we live in today, ain't it!
