Democrat Distortions On Display

The 4th District Democrat has a post titled "Palin Distortions On Display in Show-Me State"
But in fact, as usual it is the Dems doing the distorting... as demonstrated below.

"PALIN TODAY: "And then there are those like John McCain who use their careers to promote change. Americans, this is a moment when principles and political independence matter a lot more than just a party line."

REALITY: The Democrats argue that McCain has agreed with President Bush 90% of the time so he can't possibly be an independent man of principle.
Barack Obama voted with the most liberal Democrats 100% of the time, so apparently he is a man of less principle than John McCain. McCain opposed his party enough to earn the nickname "Maverick" and most Republicans didn't use that term affectionately either.

PALIN TODAY: "Senator McCain has called the two of us a team of mavericks and knows that we've done some shaking up there in Alaska."

REALITY: Democrats claim she is part of the corrupt establishment in Alasksa because she has not said whether she endorses Ted Stevens who has been indicted... NOT ENDORSING someone means not endorsing them...yet those same Democrats ignore the fact that Barack Obama has clear, longstanding, strong ties to convicted criminal Tony Rezko and many other highly questionable figures in their effort to smear Sarah Palin. Classic.

PALIN TODAY: "I champion earmark reform. You'll hear about this from the Senator. To stop Congress from wasting public money on things that don't serve the public interests."

REALITY: Democrats Claim that Sarah Palin is a liar about this... but in fact it is Obama that according to CNN is a pork barrel earmark specialist- -- Last year Sen. Barack Obama, submitted a laundry list of federal funding requests, known as earmarks, to the Senate Appropriations Committee: 112 earmarks totaling more than $330 million in taxpayer funds.
Sarah Palin has in fact refused federal earmarks. Obama has not.

PALIN TODAY: "We took on the old politics as usual in Juneau and we broke the monopoly that had controlled our state and that was the special interests and the lobbyists surrounding the big oil companies."

REALITY: Democrats argue that "Palin has close ties to the oil and gas industry"... but in fact she put in place basically what many Democrats are calling for nationally.. a windfall profit tax on oil companies. Not exactly a patsy for the oil industry. But further, who do you want solving our energy problems... someone who knows the oil and gas industry or someone who hates the oil and gas industry and knows absolutely nothing about it? And speaking of "politics as usual" Obama selected the poster child for old style corrupt good-ol-boy politics in Joe Biden as his VP.

PALIN TODAY: "I told Congress thanks, but no thanks, for that bridge to nowhere. If our state wanted to build a bridge, we would build it ourselves."

REALITY: Democrats are claining that she was for the bridge before she was against it... when in fact, what she said was that if Alaska decided they need those bridges, they would build them with their own funds NOT federal funding. Nice try though Dems... just a few facts in the way of a good story there.

BTW- Since WHEN are democrats opposed to federal funding for local projects? Ask Sen Robert Byrd and others that question.

FBI: U.S. Invasion Surprised Iraq

Invasion Surprised Iraq
Saddam Hussein initially didn't think the U.S. would invade Iraq to destroy weapons of mass destruction, so he kept the fact that he had none a secret to prevent an Iranian invasion he believed could happen. The Iraqi dictator revealed this thinking to George Piro, the FBI agent assigned to interrogate him after his capture.

Piro, in his first television interview, relays this and other revelations to 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley this Sunday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Piro spent almost seven months debriefing Saddam in a plan based on winning his confidence by convincing him that Piro was an important envoy who answered to President Bush. This and being Saddam's sole provider of items like writing materials and toiletries made the toppled Iraqi president open up to Piro, a Lebanese-American and one of the few FBI agents who spoke Arabic.

"He told me he initially miscalculated... President Bush’s intentions. He thought the United States would retaliate with the same type of attack as we did in 1998...a four-day aerial attack," says Piro. "He survived that one and he was willing to accept that type of attack." "He didn't believe the U.S. would invade?" asks Pelley, "No, not initially," answers Piro.

Once the invasion was certain, says Piro, Saddam asked his generals if they could hold the invaders for two weeks. "And at that point, it would go into what he called the secret war," Piro tells Pelley. But Piro isn’t convinced that the insurgency was Saddam's plan. "Well, he would like to take credit for the insurgency," says Piro.

Saddam still wouldn't admit he had no weapons of mass destruction, even when it was obvious there would be military action against him because of the perception he did. Because, says Piro, "For him, it was critical that he was seen as still the strong, defiant Saddam. He thought that [faking having the weapons] would prevent the Iranians from reinvading Iraq," he tells Pelley.

He also intended and had the wherewithal to restart the weapons program. "Saddam] still had the engineers. The folks that he needed to reconstitute his program are still there," says Piro. "He wanted to pursue all of WMD…to reconstitute his entire WMD program." This included chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, Piro says.

It took nine months to finally capture Saddam, and he bragged that he changed his routine and security to elude capture. "What he wanted to really illustrate is…how he was able to outsmart us," says Piro. "He told me he changed…the way he traveled. He got rid of his normal vehicles. He got rid of the protective detail that he traveled with, really just to change his signature."
