Victory in Iraq News: "Arabs, Turks and Christians United Against Islamic Terrorists"

On the Ground: US Forces Aid City, Improve Quality of Life in Iraq

American Forces Press Service

Iraq: July 8, 2009 – U.S. forces strengthened relationships with their Iraqi counterparts in recent days as they worked to help a city in need and to improve health care and quality of life throughout Iraq.

U.S. forces are providing humanitarian aid to the residents of an Iraqi city recovering after a devastating truck bomb attack in June. Representatives from the 1st Cavalry Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team and the Kirkuk provincial reconstruction team traveled to Taza, south of Kirkuk, on June 27 to assist in the recovery.

Forces assessed the security situation, delivered much-needed water and inspected a tent city. The Turkish government and several nongovernmental organizations donated the tents to residents who lost their homes in the blast, said Army Capt. Nathan Jennings, commander of Company C, 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.

"The town has been feeding at least 3,000 people a day since the blast to accommodate the family members and friends who came to attend funerals," Jennings said. "We brought the water to make sure the visitors had enough."

Water lines leading to the destroyed homes have been temporarily repaired, and water to the city has been restored, said Talib, Taza’s mayor.

Chris Jennings, from the Kirkuk reconstruction team, offered his team’s help with recovery efforts.

"In the coming weeks, we can start looking at offering micro-grants to help businesses that were damaged in the attack rebuild," Jennings said.

A plan is in place; however, it will take about a year to rebuild, the mayor said.

"If terrorists knew this explosion would have unified Arabs, Turks and Christians, they wouldn't have done it," Talib said. "It has united us."

Western media ignores… or disses… historic Iraq electoral successes. *ALL* hardline Islamic parties lose ground!

From Flopping Aces...

As the US media likes to point out, the Bush legacy is intrinsically tied to Iraq.

And evidently, they are banking on it’s ultimate failure.

So it comes as no surprise that it takes a UK (not a US) publication, The Guardian, to report on some very notable successes in the wake of the Iraq elections over the weekend.

As William Shawcross states in his headline today…

Democratic dawn in Iraq
"Polling was peaceful, the results encouraging.
We could yet be looking at a model for Arab states"

Despite a lower than expected turnout of 51%, there were no boycotts based on ethic or sectarian lines. In fact, the Sunni turnout in some areas was as high as 60%… a big difference from the 2005 elections. “It was also the first election to have international observers in all 712 constituencies.”

Best comment... by Aye Chihuahua: "I find it most interesting that the President didn’t bother to mention this historic event in his Saturday radio address.

Nothing appeared on the White House web site until late Sunday evening, and in that statement, credit was given to the UN.

Not a peep of credit, or even a mere mention, was given to the military personnel who have helped to transform the country into a place that is now capable of holding peaceful democratic elections."

Surge Ends Civil War Talk

Here is another sure sign that the surge is not only working, but working better than expected.
What two words have you not heard used lately when listening to the news media or the Democrat talking points (same thing)?

We have heard from just about everyone who has visited the war and also from those fighting in theater that the SURGE IS WORKING, violence is down significantly and Iraqi's are working WITH U.S. troops to find Al Qaeda and Iranian Islamic radicals as well as fighting them on their own.... but no mention of the so-called "civil war" that the American news media and Democrat party (same thing) were so fond of mentioning every day - 50x per day, for the past year or longer.

This leaves me wondering... how long after Iraq is stable and a friend to the US can the Democrats and news media (same thing) hold on to their dream of civil war and American DEFEAT?
